Danbury, CT (AP)--Matt and Face on Balls narrowly avoided defeat this week, beating Jeremy 69-67 RBI to take the 3rd Stat-Cat contest and earn $20.
Matt was grateful for the two-week efforts of Kendry Morales, Jose Bautista and Casey McGehee who each contributed 12 RBI. Albeit in a losing effort, Jeremy wanted me to thank Ty Wigginton (13), Joey Votto and Carlos Gonzalez (11). He also wanted to thank Steve for trading CarGo to him last month.
This brings us to the 4th Stat-Cat contest: stolen bases. Dunder Mifflin leads the league in this really boring category with 40 swipes, followed by Bloop Chutes (39), Brentmeister (38), Monstah (36), Mario Van Peebles (33) and Bolas en la Cara (32).
Paul and Bolas owns 3 of the top-10 base stealers including league-leader Juan Pierre (18). He's hoping for big numbers from him, Elvis Andrus (14), and B.J. Upton (9). Mr. G (12), NY Crop Dusters (14) and Bx Bombers (16) are the slowest teams in the league.
Those looking to boost their SB-totals should focus on those teams playing against Jason Kendall (KC), Victor Martinez (BOS), Ryan Doumit (PIT) or Bengie Molina (SF). These backstops, barely contributing anything offensively, have also allowed 127 SB while only throwing out 27 attempted thieves.
I implemented this Stat-Cat contest in order to generate some added interest in the competition and hopefully help motivate some owners who weren't doing so well overall. I'm glad to say that I think it's been a success thus far, with two of the first three winners being owners with sub-.500 teams. Sure, I'll bet Jeremy and Jim would rather have Mr. G's record, but, making half your dues back in the first month ain't so bad either.
